The 2017 Clara Cummings Walk

Date:

Sunday, May 21, 2017, 8:45am to 2:15pm

Location:

Appleton Farms and Grass Rides [857 Highland Street, South Hamilton MA 01982]

Please join us on Sunday, May 21st for the 2017 Clara Cummings Walk at Appleton Farms Grass Rides! Beginning from the Highland parking lot, we will stroll among the hardwood lined trails of the Grass Rides Loop, to the Long Causeway Brook to the pinnacle on Pigeon Hill; after taking in the spectacular panoramic views of the Great Pasture, we will continue down the Plains Trail.   There are four pinnacles located throughout the property which were salvaged from Harvard’s Gore Hall and bequeathed to the Appleton's for their long association with Harvard University. The variable terrains of Appleton Farms Grass Rides offers open fields, rock walls, wetlands, and a diversity of trees and downed logs to explore for fungi, lichens and bryophytes.

The group will be charged with compiling a checklist of bryophytes, fungi and lichens on the site. The collecting protocol will be outlined at the beginning of the event.

Please be sure to bring water, lunch, sunscreen, and remember to take the appropriate precautions against ticks. Note that although dogs are permitted at Grass Rides, they are prohibited at Appleton Farms.
