Macroalgae in the Spotlight

The Farlow Herbarium will begin work this year on an NSF Collaborative Research project to digitize 150 years of macroalgal specimens from around the world. When the consortium of herbaria across the U.S. complete the project, high resolution images and information about when and where each specimen was collected will be openly accessible for more than a million specimens through the consortium's web portal and the iDigBio web resource. This data will help determine how aquatic environments have been impacted by climate change, biological invasions, and human activity over the last century and a half.
